The Boulevard Academy

The Boulevard Academy is an inclusive secondary school that is making positive changes but still requires improvement across the key areas inspected. Older pupils recognise the improvements, attendance is rising, and many pupils say they feel safe. However, some pupils feel less safe in corridors and at unstructured times because poor behaviour is not always dealt with consistently. Over time, pupils have not achieved as well as they should in public examinations. The curriculum has been redeveloped in all subjects and key knowledge has been identified. There are strengths in reading support and in some subject practice, such as mathematics check-ins. Pupils with SEND are beginning to benefit from recent improvements, although their achievement over time has been weak. In some lessons, teachers do not check understanding well enough and tasks do not stretch pupils sufficiently, which limits how deeply pupils learn. Personal development includes PSHE, life skills and careers work, and pupils enjoy a wide range of clubs. However, work to promote respect for difference and protected characteristics is not securely in place, and some pupils do not show respect for others. Leaders are ambitious, and trust and governance support has improved, but the school does not evaluate the impact of improvement actions well enough. Safeguarding arrangements are effective. The school is part of Thrive Co-Operative Trust and has an interim headteacher in post since September 2024.
