Tunstead Primary School

Tunstead Primary School is a small, inclusive maintained primary school that inspectors found to be performing well across the main areas of school life. Pupils feel safe, relationships are positive, and the school has a clear understanding of pupils’ needs, including those with SEND, so that pupils are included and achieve well from their varied starting points. The curriculum is ambitious and thoughtfully sequenced, reading is a high priority, and behaviour and attendance are generally strong. The school’s personal development offer gives pupils a wide range of responsibilities and opportunities, and pupils talk maturely about difference and safeguarding. Governors are actively involved and provide suitable support and challenge, and staff value the training available to them. Safeguarding arrangements are effective. The main area for improvement is that staff do not always spot and correct pupils’ errors and misconceptions promptly, which means some pupils do not learn as well as they could. Early years provision was judged as having insufficient evidence because there were very few children on roll in that phase at the time of inspection; the school was part of the first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic and is part of the Green Shoots Federation.

• Staff do not always address pupils’ misconceptions and correct errors in their work promptly, so some pupils do not learn as well as they could.
