Jigsaw CABAS School is an independent day school for autistic pupils with significant and complex needs, all of whom have an education, health and care plan. Many pupils are non-verbal, have social and communication difficulties, and have previously been excluded from or unable to attend mainstream school. This standard inspection found that the school meets all independent school standards, and safeguarding standards are met. The school is highly effective overall, with exceptional practice in attendance and behaviour, inclusion, personal development and wellbeing, and post-16 provision. Achievement, curriculum and teaching, and leadership and governance are strong. Leaders take a highly strategic and preventative approach, removing barriers linked to pupils’ complex needs. Attendance is outstanding, behaviour and attitudes are transformational, and inclusion is exemplary, with staff identifying needs precisely and personalising support. The personal development programme, preparation for adulthood, and sixth-form pathways are especially strong, and students progress to further education and ambitious destinations. The curriculum is bespoke and ambitious, teaching is consistently strong, and governance provides robust challenge and support. Parents are overwhelmingly positive, and staff feel well supported. No significant weaknesses were identified; the only next step is for leaders to continue embedding their work so pupils experience transformative success across all areas of learning.
