Description
betaNether Stowe School, located at St Chad's Road, WS13 7NB, Lichfield, Staffordshire, is an 11-18 mixed secondary school and sixth form with academy status. Founded in 1964, the school replaced Lichfield Central School and was substantially expanded in 1969. With a current capacity of 929 students, it operates under the guidance of local authority Staffordshire County Council and The Arthur Terry Learning Partnership. The motto of the school is "Aspire to Excellence," which reflects the institution's educational drive.
The school's most notable achievements include Maths & Computing College status and various awards such as Artsmark, School Extra, and Investors In People status, all received between 2001 and 2003. In 2013, Nether Stowe moved up from "satisfactory" to "good" in the OFSTED report, which praised the use of peer marking in lessons and the school's work to address pupils' attitudes to learning and their safety.
The school's facilities include a brand new sports hall, completed in 2020, and an additional full-size hall, complementing the existing inside space and swimming pool. Facilities are leased to the community for use by clubs and organizations.
Previously, the school's motto was "Altiora Peto," which translates from Latin as "Aim Higher," though the current motto is now displayed throughout the school. The institution is split into houses, each fostering a competitive and educational spirit within the students. A comprehensive list of past headteachers marks the institution's history, with the current headteacher being Glyn Langston-Jones.
