Plympton Academy is currently identified as requiring improvement in several key areas, including the overall quality of education and leadership and management. While most pupils demonstrate positive attitudes towards learning and the school has successfully fostered a calm and orderly atmosphere, significant concerns remain about the academic achievement levels, particularly in the sixth form. The school has raised expectations and made curriculum improvements; however, many students, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, do not achieve the necessary depth in their understanding of subjects. The leadership team, while dedicated to improvement, reflects a clear need for continued development in instructional practices to effectively check and address student learning gaps. Despite these challenges, the school excels in promoting positive behavioural attitudes, offering a wide range of extracurricular activities, and ensuring that safeguarding practices are effective. Additionally, the school's commitment to equality and diversity is commendable, and the engagement with parents has been strengthened. However, addressing issues around reading support and inconsistent attendance remains a priority for the school to truly ensure every student can succeed.
