Ryvers School is a warm, inclusive primary academy in Slough that inspectors found to be performing well across its key areas. Pupils are happy, safe and well cared for, behaviour is strong, and they benefit from a broad curriculum, effective teaching and a clear focus on reading and communication. The school has high expectations and strong support for pupils with SEND, and staff morale is high. Safeguarding is effective. This was the school's first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic and it remains part of a single-academy trust. Leaders have built a curriculum that sets out what pupils should know and remember, and pupils typically learn well and recall knowledge securely in most subjects. Personal development is a notable strength, with pupils taking leadership roles, learning about mental health, faith and diversity, and accessing a wide range of activities. The school's work to reduce absence through close collaboration with families is also effective. Two areas need further development. In a couple of foundation subjects, checks on pupils' learning are not as developed, so pupils do not recall knowledge and skills as securely as they could. In addition, oversight of the impact of a few initiatives is not precise enough, meaning leaders do not always know exactly what is working best to improve outcomes. Published Year 1 phonics outcomes do not reflect the strength of the school's reading approach, partly because many pupils join mid-year, including some who speak English as an additional language.
