Grove Academy is a warm, welcoming and culturally diverse school where pupils feel safe and behave very well. Safeguarding standards are met, and the school has a positive safeguarding culture. Early years, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing are all at the expected standard. Leaders support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, those who speak English as an additional language, and disadvantaged pupils well, and pupils benefit from strong care, enrichment and careers guidance. The school is part of The Slough and East Berkshire C of E Multi Academy Trust and was inspected under section 5 of the Education Act 2005. However, achievement needs attention. Pupils do not achieve as securely as they should in national tests and examinations, with outcomes below national averages, and some pupils have gaps in knowledge and skills, particularly in writing. Assessment is not consistently used well enough to identify misconceptions or close gaps, and the quality of teaching is variable. Attendance also needs attention, as overall and persistent absence are above national averages, although leaders have begun work to improve this and it is too early to see the full impact. Leaders understand the school's priorities and have made important improvements, especially in safeguarding and behaviour. The next steps are to ensure assessment is used consistently to address gaps, to develop pupils' writing accuracy and fluency, and to embed approaches that reduce absence. Because several improvements are recent, their full impact is not yet evident.
