Measham Church of England Primary School is a welcoming, caring school where staff know pupils well and pastoral support is a notable strength. Pupils feel safe, behave well, and benefit from a wide range of musical, sporting and other enrichment opportunities. Personal development and early years provision are strong, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. The school has recently joined Rise Multi Academy Trust and has a new headteacher, and leaders are taking action to improve the curriculum with trust support. However, the quality of education requires improvement. Although the curriculum is ambitious and recent changes are beginning to help pupils, pupils do not yet learn as well as they should, particularly pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and those who struggle with reading. Support plans for pupils with SEND are not always precise enough, some staff lack the expertise to adapt tasks well, and teachers’ checks on understanding are inconsistent, allowing misconceptions to persist. This was the school’s first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was inspected under the arrangements from September 2024, so no overall effectiveness grade was given. The report recognises renewed ambition, positive staff views and effective early years and reading provision, while making clear that the main improvement priorities are SEND support, curriculum adaptation and checking pupils’ learning.
