Arise Education is an independent special school for pupils with education, health and care plans, currently catering for 36 pupils aged 9 to 17 across three sites. It applied to the Department for Education to extend its age range to 5 to 19, increase its maximum pupil number from 40 to 80, and open an additional primary-age site at The Benn Centre. This was a material change inspection, not a graded inspection, and inspectors concluded that the school is likely to meet the relevant independent school standards if the proposed changes are implemented. The report found strong leadership and planning for the proposed expansion. The proprietor and leaders have a clear focus on pupils’ wellbeing and individual needs, and they have made considered plans for staffing, curriculum, safeguarding, health and safety, and premises across all four sites. Safeguarding arrangements are robust, health and safety and fire safety are well managed, recruitment checks are thorough, and the curriculum and assessment systems are suitable for the intended age range. Inspectors identified no significant areas of concern in the standards considered. The school’s premises are described as attractive, secure and well maintained, with appropriate facilities and outdoor space, and leaders have suitable plans to support younger and older pupils as the school grows.
