Islamiyah School is a small independent Muslim school in Blackburn that is performing strongly overall. Inspectors found pupils, including disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND, make very strong progress and achieve consistently well, with attainment above national averages over time. Attendance is high, persistent absence is rare, and pupils' behaviour is excellent. Inclusion is a particular strength, with precise identification of needs and effective support. Leadership and governance are also strong, with a clear vision, effective oversight, and all independent school standards met. Safeguarding standards are met. Personal development and wellbeing are strong, with a rich programme that builds confidence, leadership and community engagement. The main area for improvement is curriculum and teaching, which was graded at the expected standard rather than strong. While the curriculum has been substantially redesigned and is ambitious, teachers do not consistently check pupils' understanding or address misconceptions and gaps in knowledge swiftly across all subjects. This means some pupils may not have errors revisited thoroughly enough, and subsequent activities are not always reshaped quickly to close gaps. The report notes this is not consistent across the curriculum. The school has seen significant changes in leadership and governance since the previous inspection, including a new headteacher, deputy headteacher, governors and chair of the proprietor body. Inspectors found a positive, collaborative ethos and a strong sense of pride among staff, pupils, parents and carers. The next step is for leaders to ensure teachers address misconceptions and gaps in pupils' knowledge swiftly and consistently well across the curriculum.
