Aurora Keyes Barn School is a small independent special school for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, including autism and ADHD; all 24 pupils have an education, health and care plan. It is run by proprietor Beechkeys Limited, and the report notes a new chair of the proprietor board appointed in July 2025. The inspection found a school with a transformational, deeply inclusive ethos: pupils who often arrive disengaged or with negative prior experiences of education are welcomed, understood quickly and supported through highly individualised plans tied closely to their EHC plans. Pupils achieve well from their starting points, with many working in line with or above age-related expectations. Attendance rises very significantly over time, behaviour is calm and purposeful, and relationships are strong. The curriculum is broad, ambitious and well adapted, teaching is effective, and there is a strong focus on vocabulary, oracy and rapid catch-up. Safeguarding standards are met, all independent school standards are met, and leadership, governance, staff development, personal development and wellbeing are all notable strengths. The school's pastoral care, keyworker system and wide enrichment offer help pupils build confidence, independence and ambition. The main area for further work is spelling and handwriting. Leaders have recently refined their approach, but they should continue supporting teachers to embed it consistently so pupils apply these skills across their work and achieve high standards. No other significant concerns were identified.
