Description
betaBlessed William Howard Catholic School is a mixed secondary institution and sixth form located in Stafford, Staffordshire, England. With origins dating back to 1963, the school gained its name from the historical figure Blessed William Howard, who was the 1st Viscount of Stafford in the 17th century. Hosted on Rowley Avenue (ST17 9AB), the school reflects its religious affiliation with the Roman Catholic Church.
As of February 2024, the school enrolls roughly 1,084 students from the age of 11 up to 18. Formerly a voluntary aided school administered by Staffordshire County Council, the institution gained specialist Arts College status in 2003. In 2016 it converted to academy status, nonetheless it still coordinates with Staffordshire County Council for admissions. The school also joins Stafford Collegiate, a consortium consisting of Stafford's secondary schools and Stafford College, providing a robust sixth form provision.
Blessed William Howard Catholic School is managed and overseen by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham. Notable former students include Tom Edwards, a Stoke City footballer, and Peter Turnbull, a cricketer.
