Burford CofE Primary School is a small, rural Church of England primary school within the Diocese of Hereford Multi-Academy Trust. A full section 5 inspection in June 2026 found the school performing well overall, with strong standards in inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing. Safeguarding standards are met. Leaders have created a highly inclusive, nurturing culture where pupils feel safe, valued and a strong sense of belonging. The report highlights exceptional pastoral care and strong relationships with families. Disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND are well supported, and pupils behave well, with attendance above the national average and persistent absence reducing. The curriculum is broad and balanced, teaching is typically effective, and early reading and phonics are taught well. Personal development is a particular strength, with a wide range of enrichment experiences and a well-sequenced PSHE curriculum that prepares pupils well for life in modern Britain. Leadership is strong: staff are well supported, parents are overwhelmingly positive, and the trust provides effective strategic oversight while maintaining the school's rural distinctiveness. While achievement is generally in line with or above national averages and improving over time, inspectors identified some areas for development. Teaching does not consistently provide more complex work for pupils who are ready. Attendance and persistent absence require continued focus, despite recent improvements. In the early years, the curriculum does not yet develop children's understanding of the wider world as well as other areas. These are the main priorities for further improvement.
