Co-op Academy Grange is a large secondary school in Bradford and is part of Co-op Academies Trust. After a February 2025 graded inspection, inspectors found the school requires improvement across the four key judgements, although it no longer requires significant improvement following its previous inadequate judgement. Most pupils enjoy school, feel safe and supported, and benefit from positive relationships with staff. Behaviour in lessons is generally good, but a small group of pupils disrupts social times, and historic gaps in curriculum knowledge mean some pupils are not doing as well as they should. The school has strengthened its curriculum, which is suitably ambitious and well sequenced, and has carefully constructed PSHE and careers programmes. Reading is valued highly, with effective support for pupils who need to catch up, and personal development is broad, including clubs, trips and student leadership. Safeguarding is effective. Attendance and punctuality have improved through effective work with families, and behaviour has become calmer with suspensions falling. However, curriculum delivery is inconsistent across and within subjects, including PSHE, and SEND support varies too much, particularly for pupils without an education, health and care plan. Attendance, punctuality and suspension rates remain concerns because they cause some pupils to miss valuable learning time. Leaders and trustees understand what needs to improve and are bringing about change, with improvements evident in behaviour, attendance and curriculum development. Where pupils attend regularly, they benefit from a well-planned curriculum and useful careers guidance. The school’s work is moving in the right direction, but some pupils have underachieved over time because of high suspension and absence rates, and the quality of curriculum delivery and SEND support still needs to be more consistent.
