Winterstoke Hundred Academy

Winterstoke Hundred Academy is performing well since its establishment as a new free school in September 2020. The overall effectiveness has been deemed good, with commendable performance across various aspects including the quality of education, behaviour, personal development, and leadership. The school has successfully integrated new pupils each year and established a supportive environment for both academic and personal growth, which is reflected in high engagement levels and a broad spectrum of extracurricular activities. However, there are ongoing improvements needed in certain areas, particularly in supporting pupils with special educational needs and ensuring effective assessment practices to gauge student understanding accurately. Areas of strength include the ambitious curriculum that supports all pupils, including those in the rapidly expanding sixth form, alongside innovative initiatives like the breakfast club and a well-implemented personal, social, and health education curriculum. While staff manage to maintain calm classroom behavior and a strong sense of belonging, some systemic issues stemming from the school's growth have affected communication with parents and the effectiveness of reading interventions for lower-level readers. Nonetheless, the school is addressing these challenges systematically with the aim of further integrating best practices.
