Hillcross Primary School is a happy, welcoming school where pupils love learning and feel known and cared for. Behaviour and personal development are outstanding, as are leadership and management and early years provision, while the quality of education is good. Pupils behave maturely and respectfully, attend well, and benefit from an exceptional personal development programme that puts equality at its heart and offers many leadership opportunities, trips and clubs. The school has a broad and ambitious curriculum, with reading a priority and strong support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), who achieve as well as their peers. Parents and staff are exceptionally positive, and safeguarding is effective. The main area for improvement is that in a few subjects in Years 1 to 6, the curriculum is not implemented with consistent precision, so some pupils do not secure the depth of knowledge and understanding they should; leaders should check implementation to provide targeted support and professional development.
