Mapperley CofE Controlled Primary School has improved since its previous inspection and is now judged good in all four key judgements: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management. Pupils are happy, safe and well cared for in a nurturing environment, and staff know pupils and families well. High expectations are matched by positive pupil attitudes, good behaviour and strong progress through a broad, ambitious and well-sequenced curriculum. Reading is a particular priority, with expert phonics teaching and effective support for pupils who fall behind. Pupils with SEND are identified quickly and supported well, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. The school provides a wide range of enriching experiences, including sports, music, woodland activities and residential visits. Pupils develop confidence, understand how to stay safe and healthy, and talk positively about diversity and equality. Attendance is mostly good, and staff use strong family relationships to address barriers where attendance is weaker. The school has worked successfully to strengthen its curriculum and provision, and staff are proud to work there. There are still areas to improve. Routines for checking what pupils have learned are not applied consistently across subjects, so gaps and misconceptions are sometimes not identified or corrected quickly. In addition, the school's systems for evaluating the impact of the curriculum are not yet robust enough, meaning leaders do not have a clear enough understanding of where further improvements are needed. This is a small voluntary controlled Church of England primary school, and no overall effectiveness grade was given under the current inspection framework.
