Escomb Primary School is currently rated as requiring improvement overall, following its latest inspection. The school provides a caring and safe environment where students enjoy attending. Positive relationships exist among pupils, staff, and parents, promoting good behaviour and attitudes. However, the school faces challenges in sustaining the strong foundations established in early years, particularly in the curriculum development and pedagogical approaches, which struggle to meet the diverse needs of all students, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Recent leadership changes indicate a direction toward improvement, but the full impact of these changes is yet to be realized across all student groups. Notably, the inspection highlighted strengths in early years provision, where children are well-prepared for their subsequent learning. However, the mathematics curriculum requires urgent attention, as many pupils are not adequately prepared for their next phase of learning. The school’s efforts in developing reading skills have yielded positive outcomes, with pupils showing increased fluency and enjoyment in phonics. To move forward, leadership must focus on effective curriculum implementation and improve assessment strategies to address gaps in knowledge and understanding.
