The John Harrox Primary School, Moulton is an inclusive and welcoming primary school where pupils are generally well behaved, feel safe and achieve well. Inspectors found all key judgements to be good: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and early years provision. The school has high expectations, a calm and orderly environment, and a strong emphasis on reading, with effective phonics teaching and support for pupils who find reading difficult. Pupils benefit from a range of enrichment activities, trips, residential visits and leadership roles, and staff feel well supported by leaders. The curriculum is well considered in most subjects, with clear key knowledge and opportunities for pupils to recall and connect learning. Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities are identified and supported through suitable adaptations. Safeguarding arrangements are effective. However, some areas of the wider curriculum are still developing, and pupils in mixed-age classes do not consistently build subject-specific knowledge and skills, such as thinking like a scientist or historian. There are also areas for improvement in the early years, where adult interactions during free-choice activities and imaginative play do not reliably develop children’s communication and vocabulary. The school has not carefully evaluated the impact of strategies for the small minority of pupils who need additional help regulating their behaviour, and governors do not always receive the information needed to hold the school fully to account. This was the school’s first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic, and it remains a good school overall.

Admissions: local authority offers data from the Department for Education. A school is oversubscribed when at least 5% of the families who put it first were not offered a place, and undersubscribed when everyone who put it first got in but 10% or more of its places were unfilled in the Department's school capacity survey (the latest survey is used for entry years it does not cover). Places: Department for Education, School capacity, from local authorities' annual survey as at 1 May. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024–25); the survey was not run in 2020. Places include sixth form places. Forecasts are the local authority's own for the school's planning area, an area it uses to plan places that is not the school's catchment area. The forecast starts from a head count in 2025; the dashed line is the Department's estimate of places in that area, including those the authority has firm plans for. Planned places are cumulative, and only those with firm plans are counted.

Sick leave is the share of teachers who took at least one day in the year, so it swings widely at small schools, where a few teachers can make it 0% or 100%.
