Ettington CofE Primary School is a successful and highly inclusive school where pupils are placed at the heart of all it does. The values of trust, respect and love underpin strong relationships, exceptional behaviour and a happy, cohesive culture. Pupils feel safe, achieve very well and leave as responsible, active citizens who want to make a positive difference. The curriculum is intelligently considered from the early years onwards, reading and phonics are strong, and pupils with SEND are identified and supported promptly. The school's personal development and behaviour and attitudes are outstanding, while quality of education, leadership and management, and early years provision are good. Leadership is secure, governors understand the school well, staff feel supported, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. This was the first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic, and the headteacher and deputy headteacher have been appointed since the previous inspection. The main areas for improvement are in assessment and curriculum precision. In some subjects, leaders have not yet clarified the essential knowledge pupils need to know and remember, and the school has not established a consistent system for checking pupils' understanding during lessons and at the end of topics. As a result, some key gaps or misunderstandings are not addressed quickly enough.
