Springside is a specialist school for pupils with high levels of special educational needs and/or disabilities, including profound and multiple, severe and moderate learning difficulties. Almost all pupils have an education, health and care plan, and some have previously been excluded or spent long periods out of school. This full inspection found an inclusive, calm and aspirational school where pupils are valued, kept safe and helped to make individually significant progress from their starting points. Safeguarding arrangements meet requirements. All inspected areas were judged to be working at a strong standard. Leaders and staff know pupils extremely well and adapt teaching, communication, behaviour support and personal development to complex needs. Early years provision, inclusion, curriculum planning and governance are particular strengths, and pupils benefit from close work with families and other professionals. Attendance is carefully monitored and supported, and pupils' wider experiences and preparation for the next stage of education are strong. No specific weaknesses or underperformance were identified. The main next step is for leaders to continue improving so that the school's already strong practice can become exceptional and sustain a transformational impact for all pupils.

Turnover is the share of a year's teachers (full-time equivalent) who were not at the school the following year, whether they moved to another school or left state-funded teaching. Turnover and sickness figures run one year behind the ratios. Sick leave is the share of teachers who took at least one day in the year, so it swings widely at small schools, where a few teachers can make it 0% or 100%. The national figures are for all state schools of the same type.
