Cedars Manor School is a community primary school that has faced significant disruption and leadership change in recent years. This was its first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic, and although the school was previously judged good, inspectors found that most areas now require improvement, with early years provision remaining a notable strength. Staff are committed to improvement and action plans are in place, but pupils are not yet achieving as well as they should across the curriculum. The curriculum is broad and results are improving in English and mathematics, but delivery is inconsistent in other subjects because some teachers lack the subject expertise to identify misconceptions and build knowledge securely. Pupils with SEND do not consistently receive the support or ambition they need, and some fall behind in reading. Behaviour expectations are not applied consistently, and some pupils experience unkind behaviour or bullying at social times. Attendance is improving, safeguarding is effective, and pupils benefit from a range of clubs and enrichment, but personal development is limited by few curriculum-linked trips and values that are not fully embedded. Leadership and governance require improvement. New leaders need more effective professional development to drive improvement strategically, and governors must hold leaders to account more rigorously. Early years is well designed and thoughtfully delivered, with children enjoying meaningful learning, especially around number and motor skills. Overall, the school has some clear strengths and committed staff, but significant work remains to ensure consistent quality across the school.
