On Track Education Centre Westbury is a special school for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, ADHD and autism, all of whom have education, health and care plans. This inspection follows a previous judgment of inadequate in June 2024 and two monitoring visits. Under a new headteacher appointed in January 2025, the school has improved substantially: it now meets the expected standard across all evaluated areas, meets all independent school standards, and safeguarding standards are met. Pupils who often arrive with negative prior educational experiences quickly re-engage, feel safe and valued, and most attendance improves markedly. Strengths include a broad, ambitious curriculum, secure teaching and strong inclusion work, with personalised support helping pupils develop confidence, independence and resilience. Behaviour has improved significantly, bullying is rare, and personal development, life skills and careers guidance prepare pupils well for their next steps. Leaders have secure oversight, prioritise staff wellbeing, and most parents value the difference the school has made. However, some priorities remain. A minority of pupils arrive with significant gaps in reading and writing; a phonics programme is in place but not fully embedded, and support during writing tasks is inconsistent. Persistent absence, though improved, remains an ongoing priority, and leaders have identified the need to widen employer links within the careers programme. The post-16 provision was not graded because fewer than five students were on roll, and the school uses three unregistered alternative provisions.
