Founded in 1969 and named after Lord Louis Mountbatten, the school has grown into an academy, initially opening as a comprehensive institution. It offers a range of specialist education services, including Language College and Sports College status, with a motivating motto: "We Care, We Respect, We Achieve".
The school campus boasts an array of facilities such as the Lower Humanities Building, Jubilee Building, and the refurbished Viceroy’s Building, providing spaces for Humanities, Art, English, Science, and dining hall needs. Sports colleges have both an original gymnasium, a sports hall, fitness suite, and sports science laboratory. ICT and Technology are accommodated in the Mulberry Building, and Modern Foreign Languages and mathematics are housed in the Brabourne Building. The school also features a Lantern Theatre Building, which includes drama and music rooms, and a recording studio. A dedicated Student Services Building was opened in 2014, with a trading subsidiary, Personal Best Education, located in the Malta Building.
The Mountbatten School continues to strive for excellence and has been recognized nationally, having held the High Performing Specialist School title several times and obtaining various awards such as the International Schools Award, Arts Mark Gold Award, and Eco Schools award. Aiming to improve, the school was recognized by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust as one of the hundred most-improved schools in 2012 and joined the Leading Edge Network the same year. As of today, the school has approximately 1,420 students spread across houses named after distinguished personalities.
