• A-level outcomes have been below national averages over time.
• Sixth-form teachers do not consistently identify students' starting points accurately, so teaching does not always build on prior knowledge.
• Teaching does not consistently use assessment information to adapt lessons, limiting how deeply some pupils and sixth-form students extend their learning and written responses.
• Some pupils are not routinely challenged to deepen their understanding or write with greater clarity and detail.
• Disadvantaged pupils and pupils with SEND participate less regularly in the wider activities offer, although leaders have begun to address this.
• Improvement work in the sixth form is at an early stage.
