Thrunscoe Primary and Nursery Academy is a good school across all inspected areas. Inspectors found a welcoming, inclusive school where pupils are happy and safe, staff have high expectations, and relationships are warm and trusting. The curriculum is carefully planned, disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND learn well, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. This was the school’s first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic, and it is a single academy trust with a new headteacher in post since the previous inspection. The school’s strengths include a broad and thoughtful curriculum, strong early years provision, prioritised reading, and effective support for pupils with SEND. Pupils benefit from a wide range of enrichment and leadership opportunities, and staff morale is high. Leaders have a clear improvement strategy and governing body oversight is committed. Inspectors identified two main areas for improvement. Some key stage 1 pupils read books that are not well matched to their reading knowledge, which slows fluency development. In addition, leaders’ curriculum intentions are not always implemented consistently across the school, so pupils’ knowledge is less secure in some areas. The report notes that a new approach to help pupils remember important knowledge is already having a positive impact.
