Beacon Academy is a secondary academy within Wellspring Academy Trust. Standards have declined since its previous 2020 inspection, and the June 2025 inspection found the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, and leadership and management inadequate, with personal development requiring improvement. Safeguarding is effective. The school is going through leadership change: an interim principal took up post in January 2025 and was not in school during the inspection, with the associate principal covering the role. There are some positive foundations. Teachers generally have secure subject knowledge, pupils with SEND are identified effectively, and history is a notable exception where teaching builds pupils' understanding and articulacy well. Pupils feel safe, most have a trusted adult, and they value enrichment, careers support, pupil leadership and alternative provision for complex behavioural needs. Staff are also positive about recent workload and support changes. However, many pupils do not behave well, poor behaviour is often unchallenged and disrupts lessons, and attendance is too low. Teaching is not consistently adapted to pupils' needs, assessment and feedback are weak, reading support is not sequenced well enough, and pupils' knowledge and vocabulary are limited. Quality assurance is underdeveloped, actions to improve have been too slow, and the PSHE curriculum does not yet give pupils a strong understanding of British values, tolerance and diversity. The trust has begun making changes, but they are in their infancy.

Attainment 8 Score
Attaimenment 8 is a measure of a pupil's average grade across a set of 8 subjects. The 8 subjects which make up Attainment 8 are:
- English
- Maths
- 3 subjects from qualifications that count towards the English Baccalaureate (EBacc), like sciences, language and history
- 3 more GCSE qualifications (including EBacc subjects) or technical awards from a list approved by the Department for Education
Each grade a pupil gets is assigned a point score from 9 (the highest) to 1 (the lowest). These scores are added up, with English and maths counted twice.

Admissions: local authority offers data from the Department for Education. A school is oversubscribed when at least 5% of the families who put it first were not offered a place, and undersubscribed when everyone who put it first got in but 10% or more of its places were unfilled in the Department's school capacity survey (the latest survey is used for entry years it does not cover). Places: Department for Education, School capacity, from local authorities' annual survey as at 1 May. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024–25); the survey was not run in 2020. Places include sixth form places. Forecasts are the local authority's own for the school's planning area, an area it uses to plan places that is not the school's catchment area. The forecast starts from a head count in 2025; the dashed line is the Department's estimate of places in that area, including those the authority has firm plans for. Planned places are cumulative, and only those with firm plans are counted.

Source: Department for Education, School workforce in England. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024/25). Pupils per teacher counts full-time-equivalent pupils and teachers. Turnover is the share of a year's teachers (full-time equivalent) who were not at the school the following year, whether they moved to another school or left state-funded teaching. Turnover and sickness figures run one year behind the ratios. Sick leave is the share of teachers who took at least one day in the year, so it swings widely at small schools, where a few teachers can make it 0% or 100%. The national figures are for all state schools of the same type.
In 2025–26, 18.8% of pupils at Beacon Academy were on SEN support (nationally 14.1%) and 8.8% had an education, health and care (EHC) plan (nationally 3.5%).
