Arc School Napton is an independent special school for pupils with education, health and care plans, including pupils with ADHD, autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, and speech, language and communication difficulties. At this March 2026 standard inspection, the school was judged to be operating at the expected standard across achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing. Safeguarding standards are met, and all independent school standards are met. The school's main strengths are its caring, purposeful culture and strong pastoral and therapeutic support. Pupils often arrive with disrupted prior education and very low starting points, but they quickly re-engage, behave well, build confidence and make positive progress. Staff know pupils well, relationships are positive, attendance is addressed thoughtfully, and pupils benefit from a considered personal development programme and wider enrichment. Leaders work closely with families, external agencies and the Kedleston Group, and parents are highly positive about the school. The main areas for development concern curriculum precision and assessment. Leaders do not always identify pupils' individual starting points sharply enough, so some activities are too easy or too challenging. Assessment use varies across lessons and subjects and does not consistently show what pupils need to learn next. Leaders recognise this and are refining curriculum implementation and monitoring so that progress becomes more consistent. Overall, this is a school fulfilling expected standards with identified next steps rather than serious weaknesses.
