The Sixth Form College Farnborough

The Sixth Form College Farnborough is a large 16-19 academy with 4,217 students, including 38 with high needs funding, delivering A-levels and vocational courses across more than 40 subjects. The full inspection in April 2026 found the college performing at an exceptionally high level, with outstanding provision in inclusion and leadership, education programmes for young people, and provision for learners with high needs. Safeguarding standards are met, with an open and positive culture in which learners feel safe and are kept safe. Practice across much of the college is described as of the highest standard nationally, from which other providers can learn. Leaders and governors have a highly accurate understanding of the college's strengths and priorities, and they pursue the highest standards of teaching and student experience relentlessly. Teaching is consistently exceptional because expert teachers design carefully ordered curriculums that build knowledge extremely well, and students make extensive progress from their starting points. Disadvantaged students, care-experienced students and those with special educational needs or high needs flourish, with tailored support accelerating their progress, building independence and preparing them confidently for ambitious next steps, including highly competitive university courses and sought-after apprenticeships. Only a small number of areas require continued attention. Attendance of year 2 students at tutorials is not as strong as in other lessons, and progress on a few courses falls below the college's very high expectations. Leaders are already acting to address both, and the college remains exceptional overall.
