Malton Primary Academy is a school where pupils enjoy learning and feel well supported. Inspectors found high expectations for achievement and behaviour, and pupils are responding positively: achievement in end-of-key-stage assessments is improving, behaviour is strong, and pupils benefit from a wide range of trips, leadership opportunities and personal development experiences. The curriculum has been redeveloped and is carefully sequenced in many areas, with particular strengths in mathematics and reading, and pupils with SEND access the same ambitious curriculum and achieve well. The school has a positive culture, effective safeguarding arrangements and strong relationships with families. Staff feel valued and workload is considered, and the trust has worked effectively with the school to support improvement. Children in the early years get a positive start, including support for language development. This was the school's first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic and its first section 5 inspection. All key judgements were good. The main areas for improvement are that the school does not routinely check pupils' learning well across all subjects, so gaps are not always clearly identified and knowledge does not build securely over time, and recent curriculum changes are not yet fully embedded across all subjects.
