Nanpean Community Primary School is a small, inclusive primary school that has undergone significant change since joining Truro and Penwith Academy Trust in 2023, including new headteacher and deputy headteacher appointments. Inspectors found the school performing at the expected standard across attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, early years, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing. Safeguarding standards are met. Pupils are happy, attend well, behave respectfully and benefit from a broad, well-sequenced curriculum and strong early years provision. The main area of concern is achievement. Over time, pupils have not achieved well at the end of key stage 2 in reading, writing and mathematics, and published outcomes are below national averages. Disadvantaged pupils' historical outcomes were particularly low. However, current work in books and improved teaching show that pupils now achieve better than their peers did historically, with effective interventions closing gaps in core skills. Younger pupils are more secure, with Year 1 phonics in line with national expectations and Year 4 pupils typically doing well in the multiplication tables check. Leaders have responded effectively to past weaknesses, and behaviour and attendance have improved markedly from a period of high suspensions and exclusions. The next steps are to ensure that key stage 2 outcomes fully reflect the quality of the curriculum and that recent improvements are embedded consistently across the academic curriculum, behaviour and attitudes to learning, and personal development. Overall, the school is in a much stronger position, with effective leadership, good inclusion and positive pupil attitudes, but must secure sustained impact on published achievement.

Areas for Improvement
- Over time, pupils have not achieved well at the end of key stage 2 in reading, writing and mathematics
- Published outcomes at key stage 2 are below national averages
- Disadvantaged pupils' historical outcomes were particularly low, with large gaps compared with non-disadvantaged pupils nationally
- Leaders must ensure that key stage 2 achievement across reading, writing and mathematics fully reflects the quality of the curriculum
- Leaders need to fully embed recent work to establish consistency and sustained impact across the academic curriculum, behaviour and attitudes to learning, and pupils' personal development
- Some pupils still need reminders of the school's high expectations, although staff deliver these kindly and appropriately
