Barrington C of E VC Primary School is performing well, maintaining its status as a good school since its last inspection in 2017. The school provides a positive learning environment where pupils are confident and happy, enjoying their studies and participating in various extracurricular activities. The curriculum is well thought out and responsive to the needs of mixed-age classes, with a strong emphasis on literacy and reading, particularly in the early years. Notably, pupils exhibit good behavior and their voices are heard in school decision-making processes, contributing to a strong sense of community and respect for others. While the overall achievements are commendable, there are areas for improvement, particularly in the teaching of reading for older students. Although early reading instruction is strong, the support offered to those in Key Stage 2 who struggle with phonics and reading does not have the desired effect, indicating a need for further training for staff in these key areas. This inspection comes as the first after the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and any impacts have been taken into consideration in the evaluation of the school’s performance.
