Rosliston CofE Primary School is a small, caring school where pupils are happy, feel safe and are respectful. Safeguarding is met, and the personal development offer is a notable strength: pupils learn about values, difference and community through assemblies, trips, visits and leadership roles. Attendance is regular, and leaders are committed to improvement and support staff well. However, most areas of the school's work need attention. Too many pupils do not secure the basic reading, writing and mathematics skills they need, writing outcomes at the end of key stage 2 are consistently below national averages, and disadvantaged pupils' outcomes are weak. The wider curriculum is uneven, and too many pupils are not well prepared for secondary school. Teaching and support are not yet consistently strong. Staff do not routinely spot and address misconceptions or adapt learning for pupils with SEND, and early years practice does not focus sharply enough on communication and language. Behaviour has become a concern: low-level disruption has increased and the revised policy is not applied consistently, so learning time is sometimes lost. The school has faced recent community changes and a rise in pupils starting with barriers to learning, and it has a new headteacher. Leaders understand the priorities and have strengthened SEND systems and training, but their focus is not sharp enough and governors do not provide sufficient strategic oversight, including of the pupil premium strategy. Improvements are under way, including clearer curriculum planning, more staff training and some effective practice in art and design. These are not yet embedded consistently across the school, and the quality of support varies. Leaders now need to secure basic skills, strengthen early years language provision, implement support plans consistently, apply the behaviour policy reliably and improve governance so that all pupils, especially disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND, achieve well.

Admissions: local authority offers data from the Department for Education. A school is oversubscribed when at least 5% of the families who put it first were not offered a place, and undersubscribed when everyone who put it first got in but 10% or more of its places were unfilled in the Department's school capacity survey (the latest survey is used for entry years it does not cover). Places: Department for Education, School capacity, from local authorities' annual survey as at 1 May. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024–25); the survey was not run in 2020. Places include sixth form places. Forecasts are the local authority's own for the school's planning area, an area it uses to plan places that is not the school's catchment area. The forecast starts from a head count in 2025; the dashed line is the Department's estimate of places in that area, including those the authority has firm plans for. Planned places are cumulative, and only those with firm plans are counted.

Turnover is the share of a year's teachers (full-time equivalent) who were not at the school the following year, whether they moved to another school or left state-funded teaching. Turnover and sickness figures run one year behind the ratios. Sick leave is the share of teachers who took at least one day in the year, so it swings widely at small schools, where a few teachers can make it 0% or 100%.
