Thrupp School is a caring and inclusive primary school where pupils flourish, behave well and attend regularly. Pupils feel safe, relationships between staff and pupils are strong, and the school has high expectations for all pupils. The curriculum is broad and ambitious and is brought to life through carefully planned experiences. Pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), achieve well, and reading is a clear priority, with effective phonics teaching and support for pupils who struggle. The school’s personal development work is a standout feature. Pupils become self-assured, celebrate diversity and take on leadership roles, and they benefit from a wide range of trips, clubs and experiences. Leadership is effective, governors are well informed and committed, staff feel valued, and parents speak highly of the school’s caring family atmosphere. Safeguarding arrangements are effective. The main area for improvement is writing. Some pupils’ knowledge of letter formation and spelling is not as secure as it should be, which hampers their progress in becoming fluent and accurate writers. The school needs to ensure pupils get enough practice to develop their transcription skills and apply them consistently. This was the school’s first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic, and under current arrangements no overall effectiveness grade was issued.
