Lift Callowell is a small primary school within Cotswold Beacon Academy Trust. This full inspection found the school performing securely overall, with all inspected areas judged at the expected standard and safeguarding standards met. Leaders, trustees and the local school development board have had a notable impact on school culture, providing effective direction and making decisions in pupils’ best interests. Pupils benefit from a calm, inclusive and nurturing environment. They make progress from their starting points, with strong phonics outcomes, improving mathematics fluency and attainment broadly in line with national averages by the end of Year 6. Early years children settle quickly and are well prepared for Year 1. Behaviour has improved considerably, attendance is improving, and pupils’ personal development and wellbeing are supported well through a carefully planned programme. Leaders’ next priorities are clear. Writing remains an area to strengthen so that more pupils secure fundamental skills and produce accurate, well-presented work. Some continuous provision activities in early years are not consistently purposeful enough to build on children’s learning. Overall absence, while improving, remains above the national average, so leaders need to continue refining attendance work.
