Randwick Church of England Primary School is performing well across all inspected areas. Pupils are enthusiastic, resilient learners who respond positively to the school’s high expectations, and relationships between staff and pupils are strong. The school’s personal development work is a notable strength, helping pupils talk about emotions, show empathy, stay safe and take on responsibilities. Early reading and phonics are also effective, with pupils building fluency and any pupils needing extra help receiving support. The school has an accurate view of its strengths and areas for improvement. Governors provide effective support and challenge, staff training is making a positive difference, attendance is good, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. Pupils with SEND are identified accurately and generally access the ambitious curriculum well. A broad range of clubs, visits, competitions and responsibilities adds to pupils’ experiences. This was the school’s first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was previously exempt from routine inspection because it had been judged outstanding. No overall effectiveness grade is awarded under current arrangements. The main areas for improvement are that some subjects are still refining exactly what pupils should learn and when, Reception vocabulary is not consistently sharp in some subjects, and teaching does not always adapt work well enough to pupils’ starting points so that knowledge is deepened in every subject.

Admissions: local authority offers data from the Department for Education. A school is oversubscribed when at least 5% of the families who put it first were not offered a place, and undersubscribed when everyone who put it first got in but 10% or more of its places were unfilled in the Department's school capacity survey (the latest survey is used for entry years it does not cover). Places: Department for Education, School capacity, from local authorities' annual survey as at 1 May. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024–25); the survey was not run in 2020. Places include sixth form places. Forecasts are the local authority's own for the school's planning area, an area it uses to plan places that is not the school's catchment area. The forecast starts from a head count in 2025; the dashed line is the Department's estimate of places in that area, including those the authority has firm plans for. Planned places are cumulative, and only those with firm plans are counted.
