Belong School Gloucestershire is an independent special school for pupils with EHC plans, predominantly autism and social, emotional and mental health needs. Inspection findings are positive overall, with safeguarding met and all independent school standards met. The school is particularly strong in attendance, behaviour and inclusion: many pupils arrive with poor attendance histories and make rapid improvements because staff build purposeful relationships with pupils and families, identify barriers forensically and adapt support effectively. Pupils feel safe, behave well, and benefit from highly tailored pastoral care and SEND-informed provision. The quality of education is solid but less consistent. Pupils generally achieve well, gain foundational reading and number skills, and are prepared for post-16 options. However, in a few subjects the curriculum is still being refined, assessment is not securely embedded in all subjects, and teaching sometimes does not close knowledge gaps as well as it could. Personal development is broad and purposeful, including careers, RSE, British values and enrichment, though leaders do not yet use participation tracking robustly enough to extend opportunities for all. Leadership and governance are effective: leaders know the school well, prioritise appropriate improvements, and the proprietor ensures statutory duties and independent school standards are met. Overall, this is a school with strong inclusive practice and care, with clear next steps to make curriculum, assessment and personal-development tracking consistently high.
