Ripplevale School

Ripplevale School is an independent special school for pupils with autism and associated conditions, all of whom have an education, health and care plan. This was a material change inspection commissioned by the Department for Education to assess whether the school should be allowed to extend its age range to include pupils up to 19 and increase its maximum number on roll from 200 to 250 across its primary site in Broadstairs and secondary site in Deal. Inspectors found the school likely to meet the relevant independent school standards if the changes are approved. Leaders are experienced in SEND provision and have planned the proposed changes thoroughly, including staffing, training, premises and reporting systems. The curriculum is ambitious and well sequenced, teaching is well adapted to pupils' needs, and safeguarding, health and safety, risk assessment and safer recruitment arrangements are effective. The premises are well maintained and have sufficient space and resources for the proposed increase, while pupils benefit from strong personal development and community opportunities. Overall, the report identifies no significant weaknesses or areas of concern. The school's governance, external audits and support for staff are notable strengths, and inspectors concluded that the material changes are well justified and can be accommodated within existing provision.
