Moor Park High School and Sixth Form is a smaller-than-average secondary school serving a disadvantaged area, with a well-above-average proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals. Inspectors found a calm, respectful and inclusive school where pupils feel safe, attendance is high, and behaviour is strong. Safeguarding standards are met. Leaders have successfully prioritised attendance and behaviour, and pupils benefit from a nurturing ethos, wide enrichment, and good careers guidance. The sixth form, although small and due to close at the end of 2025/26, provides tailored programmes and students generally learn well. However, the quality of education is mixed. Achievement, curriculum and teaching, and leadership and governance require attention. Pupils' attainment at the end of key stage 4 has been low over time, and progress is uneven, with many pupils, including some high prior-attaining pupils, not achieving as well as they should. Teaching is not consistently high quality, assessment information is not always used well, and some pupils needing extra support do not receive it effectively. Leaders have recently begun strengthening monitoring and professional development, but these changes are at an early stage and have not yet had sufficient impact. Governors and leaders have also been too positive in evaluating the school's quality of education. The school is not in crisis: attendance, behaviour, inclusion, personal development and post-16 provision are broadly effective, and staff are proud to work there. The key task is to embed consistently effective teaching across key stages 3 and 4, ensure assessment is used to close gaps, and improve leadership's evaluation systems so that all groups of pupils, including those with SEND and high prior attainers, learn and achieve well. This was a full section 5 inspection, and the headteacher has been in post only since January 2026.

Areas for Improvement

- At key stage 3, some teachers do not give pupils enough opportunities to apply and deepen their knowledge.
- Leaders' actions to develop teachers' expertise have not had sufficient impact.
- Leaders and governors have been slow to address pupils' underperformance in national tests.
- Systems for checking the effectiveness of the curriculum and teaching are not thorough enough.
- Governors and leaders have been too positive when evaluating the quality of education.
- Use of pupil premium to increase attainment is at an earlier stage, and support for pupils with additional needs remains variable.
- Support for pupils' handwriting development is at an earlier stage.
Attainment 8 Score
Attaimenment 8 is a measure of a pupil's average grade across a set of 8 subjects. The 8 subjects which make up Attainment 8 are:
- English
- Maths
- 3 subjects from qualifications that count towards the English Baccalaureate (EBacc), like sciences, language and history
- 3 more GCSE qualifications (including EBacc subjects) or technical awards from a list approved by the Department for Education
Each grade a pupil gets is assigned a point score from 9 (the highest) to 1 (the lowest). These scores are added up, with English and maths counted twice.
