Overley Hall School is an independent special school for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, all of whom have education, health and care plans. At this inspection, inspectors found the school performing strongly across all evaluated areas. Pupils make consistently strong progress from very low starting points, including nonverbal pupils learning to communicate and some learning to read for the first time. Attendance is very high, behaviour is positive, and pupils feel safe and happy. Safeguarding standards are met and all independent school standards are met. Curriculum and teaching are carefully designed around pupils' complex needs, with small steps and a strong emphasis on communication, mathematics, reading and writing. Inclusion is highly effective, with teachers, therapists and clinical staff working together to identify needs, plan provision and review impact. Leadership and governance are strong, with rigorous proprietor oversight, good staff development, and stable staffing. Personal development and preparation for adulthood are notable features, including an independent living suite and careers education. The main area for development is consistency in teaching strategies. Very occasionally, some staff do not choose the most appropriate strategies or activities to secure pupils' learning. Leaders should ensure the most effective teaching is used consistently by all staff.
