Northfield Primary and Nursery School is a good school that has improved since its previous inspection. Leaders have high expectations, the curriculum is well designed, and most pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, achieve well and produce high-quality work. Reading and phonics are particularly strong, behaviour is positive, attendance is good, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. The school provides a nurturing early years environment and a broad personal development offer covering safety, health, different cultures and British values. Pupils enjoy clubs and themed weeks, and relationships between staff and pupils are respectful. Leadership and governance are effective, and staff feel well supported. The main area for improvement is that pupils have limited opportunities to understand what it means to be active citizens and to contribute meaningfully to school life and society. Assessment checks are also occasionally not thorough enough to identify gaps precisely, although the school is already addressing this.
