Staunton and Corse Church of England Primary School is a strong school where pupils achieve well and are well prepared for secondary education. Inspectors found the curriculum broad and ambitious, behaviour expectations high, and personal development a standout strength, with pupils benefiting from a wide range of trips, clubs and responsibilities. The school is part of the Primary QuEST Multi-Academy Trust and has had a change of leadership since the last inspection, with the acting headteacher taking up post in April 2024. Pupils are respectful, feel safe and trust adults, and older pupils care for younger ones. Reading is a particular strength, SEND pupils are well supported, attendance is above national and rising, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. Governance and trust support are secure, and staff feel well supported. The main areas for improvement are assessment in the classroom, which does not always help staff identify pupils’ starting points or gaps in understanding, and the nursery curriculum, which does not yet show clear progression into Reception. Leaders are already revising the nursery curriculum, but more work is needed to ensure children are as well prepared as possible for the transition into school.
