Overall, Dixons Silver Springs Primary is a welcoming, aspirational school that is largely meeting expected standards. Safeguarding is effective, pupils are happy and behave well, and leaders have created a positive culture. Attendance is improving and is now in line with the national average, although persistent absence remains above average. The school’s inclusion work is a notable strength: disadvantaged pupils and pupils with SEND are well supported, and the specially resourced provision for speech, language and communication has a strong impact on pupils’ academic, social and emotional progress. Leadership and governance are also strong, with the trust providing useful expertise and challenge after the school’s move to Dixons Academies Trust in March 2026. The main areas needing improvement are achievement and curriculum/teaching. Reading attainment by the end of Year 6 has been below the national average over time, and some pupils have gaps in the basics of reading and writing. Some teaching does not match the intended curriculum closely enough, and some activities do not help pupils learn the specific knowledge and skills planned. As a result, some pupils do not remember earlier content well and are not as well prepared as they could be for the next stage. Writing and mathematics outcomes are closer to national averages, and disadvantaged pupils achieve well. The school serves a disadvantaged community, with free school meals and local deprivation well above average. It also has a new SEND resourced provision and a new principal joining in September 2026. Leaders have a clear improvement path, but they need to sharpen identification of barriers to learning and ensure reading and writing teaching builds securely on pupils’ prior knowledge.
