Dixons Brooklands Academy is a secondary comprehensive school in Wythenshawe and part of Dixons Academies Trust. This was its first section 5 inspection since joining the trust, and the school is not given an overall effectiveness grade under the current framework. Leaders have raised expectations and improved the school’s culture considerably in recent years. Most pupils are happy, feel safe and say concerns are dealt with well, while personal development and safeguarding are clear strengths. However, the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, and leadership and management require improvement. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed and reading is prioritised, but delivery is inconsistent: some teachers move learning on too quickly, SEND support varies, and low-level disruption persists because behaviour systems are not applied consistently. Too many pupils, including some with SEND and disadvantaged pupils, are persistently absent, and 2023 Year 11 outcomes were significantly below the national average. The school is working to embed recent changes, but some parents do not yet understand the rationale for them. There are encouraging signs. The school has clear improvement priorities, effective trust support and an ambitious vision, and it has reduced suspensions while expanding enrichment, careers guidance and English Baccalaureate entry. Leaders acknowledge the work still needed and have been mindful of staff workload while pursuing improvements.

Attainment 8 Score
Attaimenment 8 is a measure of a pupil's average grade across a set of 8 subjects. The 8 subjects which make up Attainment 8 are:
- English
- Maths
- 3 subjects from qualifications that count towards the English Baccalaureate (EBacc), like sciences, language and history
- 3 more GCSE qualifications (including EBacc subjects) or technical awards from a list approved by the Department for Education
Each grade a pupil gets is assigned a point score from 9 (the highest) to 1 (the lowest). These scores are added up, with English and maths counted twice.

Admissions: local authority offers data from the Department for Education. A school is oversubscribed when at least 5% of the families who put it first were not offered a place, and undersubscribed when everyone who put it first got in but 10% or more of its places were unfilled in the Department's school capacity survey (the latest survey is used for entry years it does not cover). Places: Department for Education, School capacity, from local authorities' annual survey as at 1 May. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024–25); the survey was not run in 2020. Places include sixth form places. Forecasts are the local authority's own for the school's planning area, an area it uses to plan places that is not the school's catchment area. The forecast starts from a head count in 2025; the dashed line is the Department's estimate of places in that area, including those the authority has firm plans for. Planned places are cumulative, and only those with firm plans are counted.

A pupil can be suspended more than once, so suspensions per 100 pupils can be higher than the share of pupils suspended. Very small numbers are hidden by the DfE. Exclusion figures dropped in 2020 and 2021 because of school closures.
In 2025–26 Dixons Brooklands Academy had 16.5 pupils for each teacher (the national figure for secondary schools was 16.7). Of its teachers in 2024–25, 22.0% were no longer at the school a year later (nationally 14.1%).

Turnover is the share of a year's teachers (full-time equivalent) who were not at the school the following year, whether they moved to another school or left state-funded teaching. Turnover and sickness figures run one year behind the ratios. Sick leave is the share of teachers who took at least one day in the year, so it swings widely at small schools, where a few teachers can make it 0% or 100%. The national figures are for all state schools of the same type.
