Endike Academy

Endike Academy is a primary academy within The David Ross Education Trust. This was its first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic, and it took place after significant staffing changes, including the recent appointment of an interim principal and executive principal. The school has an ambitious, well-sequenced curriculum and high expectations, and inspectors found notable strengths in early years provision, reading, support for pupils with SEND and safeguarding. Pupils enjoy extra-curricular activities and benefit from support for their mental health and confidence. However, the school is not yet delivering consistently well across the curriculum, and pupils’ outcomes over time have been below national expectations.

• Curriculum implementation is inconsistent across subjects, so pupils do not learn consistently well in all areas.
• Outcomes for pupils over time have been consistently below national expectations.
• Behaviour routines are not fully established, and some pupils do not feel safe at unstructured times such as playtime.
• Pupils’ understanding of British values, protected characteristics and world religions is superficial.
• Some pupils have a limited understanding of online safety and cyber-bullying.
• Some subject leaders are new to role and do not yet have a deep understanding of strengths and areas for improvement in their subjects.
• Attendance strategies are at an early stage and their impact is not yet fully embedded.
• Pupils’ mathematical fluency is variable, with gaps in knowledge for some pupils in Years 5 and 6.
• Recent staffing instability has caused concern for some parents, and relationships with families need strengthening.
