Manor Lodge Community Primary and Nursery School is a happy, welcoming and caring school where pupils feel safe and relationships are positive. Pupils behave well, move calmly around school and engage well in most lessons, and they benefit from a strong personal development programme, a wide range of visits and clubs, and opportunities to celebrate their multicultural community. The early years provision is also good, with children settling quickly and developing language, independence and positive routines. The school has recently made considerable changes to the curriculum, making it more ambitious and well structured, and early reading is a clear priority. However, the quality of education and leadership and management require improvement. In some subjects, including mathematics, tasks do not consistently help pupils learn the intended curriculum, leaving gaps in knowledge. Support for key stage 2 pupils with reading gaps is inconsistent, and pupils do not always get enough practice in grammar, punctuation, spelling and handwriting to write accurately. Some curriculum developments need more time to embed. The school is part of Sheffield South East Trust and has a headteacher who took up post in September 2023. Since the previous inspection, pupil numbers have increased and the school has managed significant building work. Safeguarding arrangements are effective, staff feel supported by leaders, and the school has improved attendance in recent years. This was the school’s first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic.
