Brookfields School is a special academy for pupils aged 4–11 in the Shaw Education Trust, and all pupils have EHC plans. Inspectors found it performing at an exceptional level: every key judgement—quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and early years—was outstanding. This was its first section 5 graded inspection; under the current framework no overall effectiveness grade is given. Leaders, the trust and the academy council share an ambitious vision, and staff are well supported and expertly trained. The curriculum is meticulously planned and sequenced from early years to Year 6, with a strong focus on communication, reading and life skills. Staff tailor teaching to pupils’ individual SEND needs, and pupils achieve impressively from their starting points. Behaviour is commendable, relationships are exceptional, and pupils’ wider development is prioritised through visits, clubs, theatre work and mental health support. Safeguarding is effective. The main area the school continues to address is attendance: most pupils attend regularly, but a small minority do not attend as often as leaders would like. The school is working relentlessly with families and this is proving effective, with attendance improving for those pupils.

Source: Department for Education, School workforce in England. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024/25). Pupils per teacher counts full-time-equivalent pupils and teachers. Turnover is the share of a year's teachers (full-time equivalent) who were not at the school the following year, whether they moved to another school or left state-funded teaching. Turnover and sickness figures run one year behind the ratios. Sick leave is the share of teachers who took at least one day in the year, so it swings widely at small schools, where a few teachers can make it 0% or 100%. The national figures are for all state schools of the same type.
