Pitcheroak School is a special school for pupils aged 4 to 19 with profound, severe and moderate learning difficulties, including complex needs and physical disabilities. All pupils have an education, health and care plan. This was the first inspection since the school joined the Central Learning Partnership Trust in November 2022, and new senior leaders have been appointed since the previous inspection. Safeguarding standards are met, and inspectors found a warm, inclusive school built on strong relationships. Overall, the school is performing well. Personal development and wellbeing are strong, with a well-sequenced programme that builds confidence, independence and responsibility. Pupils make steady progress, attendance is high, behaviour is calm and respectful, and inclusion is thoughtful and effective. Early years and post-16 provision are also tailored well to pupils' needs, and leadership and governance provide clear direction and appropriate oversight. The main areas for development are consistency. The school's communication systems are not used equally confidently by all staff, and some staff do not always spot pupils' misunderstandings or small improvements quickly enough to adapt teaching. Leaders also recognise that training and support do not yet lead to the curriculum being delivered consistently well in every class. Leaders have plans in place to strengthen professional learning and practice across the school.

Source: Department for Education, School workforce in England. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024/25). Pupils per teacher counts full-time-equivalent pupils and teachers. Turnover is the share of a year's teachers (full-time equivalent) who were not at the school the following year, whether they moved to another school or left state-funded teaching. Turnover and sickness figures run one year behind the ratios. Sick leave is the share of teachers who took at least one day in the year, so it swings widely at small schools, where a few teachers can make it 0% or 100%. The national figures are for all state schools of the same type.
