Cadbury Heath Primary School is performing well overall, with a particularly strong early years provision and secure practice across the rest of the school. Children get an excellent start in early years because of expert teaching, an ambitious curriculum and tailored support. Safeguarding standards are met, and pupils feel safe in a calm, positive environment. Leaders have driven significant improvement since the school joined The Leaf Trust, tackling legacy underachievement and raising outcomes. KS2 results in reading, writing and mathematics rose considerably in 2025 and are now broadly in line with national averages, while phonics results are well above average. Attendance is consistently good, behaviour has improved, and SEND provision is stronger. However, the wider curriculum is not yet consistently high quality, some tasks are too complex for pupils including those with SEND, and pupils need to develop greater resilience and self-discipline. The school is a small primary in The Leaf Trust, which it joined in 2023, and the headteacher took up post in 2024. The predecessor school was graded requires improvement in 2020, so the current positive direction of travel represents a substantial turnaround. Parents speak highly of leaders’ accessibility and communication, and staff feel supported and proud to work at the school.

  • KS2 outcomes rose considerably in 2025 and are broadly in line with national averages overall.
  • Attendance is at or above national averages over a sustained period, including for disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND.
  • Behaviour has improved markedly, with calm, purposeful lessons and rare incidents of bullying.
  • Leaders have a clear vision and have addressed school weaknesses at pace.
  • Trust support has been substantial and well received, and staff feel their workload and wellbeing are considered.

  • Parents and carers speak positively about the school and value leaders’ communication and accessibility.
  • Disadvantaged pupils achieve broadly in line with their peers nationally.

Areas for Improvement

  • The curriculum in some wider subjects is not yet ambitious or consistently high quality, so pupils’ knowledge is not deep in those areas.
  • Teaching is sometimes too complex, including for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, so tasks are not always precisely matched to what pupils know and can do.
  • Some pupils need to develop greater self-discipline, resilience and dedication to their learning across all aspects of school life.
  • The analysis of additional funding for disadvantaged pupils is not always precise enough to shape future plans sharply.
  • Pupils’ learning in a few personal development topics is not as deep as leaders intend, reflecting historical inconsistencies in teaching.
  • Training to develop leadership capacity at all levels is at an earlier stage of implementation.
  • Reading outcomes at the end of key stage 2 were below national averages in 2024/25, even though overall combined outcomes were close to average.

Admissions: local authority offers data from the Department for Education. A school is oversubscribed when at least 5% of the families who put it first were not offered a place, and undersubscribed when everyone who put it first got in but 10% or more of its places were unfilled in the Department's school capacity survey (the latest survey is used for entry years it does not cover). Places: Department for Education, School capacity, from local authorities' annual survey as at 1 May. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024–25); the survey was not run in 2020. Places include sixth form places. Forecasts are the local authority's own for the school's planning area, an area it uses to plan places that is not the school's catchment area. The forecast starts from a head count in 2025; the dashed line is the Department's estimate of places in that area, including those the authority has firm plans for. Planned places are cumulative, and only those with firm plans are counted.

Source: Department for Education, Suspensions and permanent exclusions in England. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024/25). A pupil can be suspended more than once, so suspensions per 100 pupils can be higher than the share of pupils suspended. Very small numbers are hidden by the DfE. Exclusion figures dropped in 2020 and 2021 because of school closures.

In 2025–26 Cadbury Heath Primary School had 20.0 pupils for each teacher (the national figure for primary schools was 20.7). Of its teachers in 2024–25, 13.0% were no longer at the school a year later (nationally 15.7%).

Source: Department for Education, School workforce in England. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024/25). Pupils per teacher counts full-time-equivalent pupils and teachers. Turnover is the share of a year's teachers (full-time equivalent) who were not at the school the following year, whether they moved to another school or left state-funded teaching. Turnover and sickness figures run one year behind the ratios. Sick leave is the share of teachers who took at least one day in the year, so it swings widely at small schools, where a few teachers can make it 0% or 100%. The national figures are for all state schools of the same type.
