Sir Bernard Lovell Academy has demonstrated considerable improvement since its last inspection, now rated as good overall. The school offers a well-structured curriculum that engages most pupils effectively, particularly in subjects like mathematics and history. Students appreciate their learning experiences and demonstrate positive behaviours which contribute to a conducive learning environment. However, there are concerns regarding the support provided to pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), particularly in developing their reading and writing skills across subjects. Additionally, the implementation of the personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) curriculum has been inconsistent, affecting pupils' preparedness for life in modern Britain. Leaders are committed to fostering both academic and personal development in students, and the sixth-form provision is commendable, with students receiving appropriate guidance for future pathways. Despite these positives, leaders acknowledge the need for further alignment of support strategies for SEND pupils and improved delivery of the PSHE curriculum to ensure all pupils are equipped for the future. Overall, the school is on a positive trajectory with its effective governance and robust safeguarding measures, creating a safe and supportive environment for all learners.
